About this course

The music industry has always required more than musicians. Behind every successful recording artist, tour, label or festival is a network of managers, agents, publicists, promoters, marketing professionals and entrepreneurs who understand the business of music and the creative ecosystem that sustains it. Music management and creative enterprise is the study of that business dimension, combining knowledge of the music industry with the entrepreneurial skills needed to navigate, build and operate within it. This three-year full-time degree at the University of Salford develops the tools and training needed to work in music management and the creative industries more broadly. You will study the music business, artist management, marketing and promotion, music publishing, live events, digital distribution and the legal and financial frameworks that govern the industry. Alongside this business and management content, you will engage with the creative enterprise dimensions of the field, developing the entrepreneurial mindset and practical skills needed to help aspiring musicians and creative practitioners achieve success in a competitive and rapidly changing marketplace. Graduates work as artist managers, booking agents, tour managers, music publicists, A&R representatives, label managers, event promoters and marketing professionals within the music industry. The broader creative industries, including television, film, gaming and digital media, also value graduates who combine business competence with genuine knowledge of the creative sector. Some graduates develop their own enterprises, applying the entrepreneurial skills the degree cultivates to new ventures in music and entertainment. Further study in music business, arts management or creative industries management is an option for those who wish to develop specialist expertise.
