MBBS Medicine
About this course
Medicine is among the most demanding and most rewarding of intellectual and professional undertakings. It asks you to combine scientific knowledge of extraordinary depth and breadth with the human skills required to listen, communicate, support and act in conditions of uncertainty. A medical degree is not simply the acquisition of clinical facts but the formation of a particular kind of clinical thinker: someone who can integrate knowledge from anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology and pathology and bring it to bear on the complex, often ambiguous presentations of real patients. At King's College London, the five-year full-time MBBS degree is built around an integrated curriculum that weaves together biomedical science, clinical skills and professional development from the earliest stages rather than separating the pre-clinical from the clinical in a strict two-phase structure. You will learn in a variety of settings, including hospitals, general practices and community environments across South London and beyond, developing clinical reasoning and patient-centred communication alongside your scientific understanding. King's broad academic base means you will encounter a wide range of clinical specialties and patient populations, and you will be challenged to think about medicine not only as a technical discipline but as a social and ethical practice. Typical entry is around 168 UCAS tariff points, and entry requirements for medicine are particularly competitive. Graduation marks the beginning of a career that spans foundation training, core specialty training and ultimately consultant or GP practice across the full breadth of clinical medicine, surgery, psychiatry, paediatrics, anaesthetics, and many more fields. Some graduates move into medical research, healthcare leadership, public health, global health or academic medicine. Others combine clinical practice with medical education or policy work. The degree is a foundation for lifelong learning in a profession where knowledge continues to evolve throughout an entire career.
