BA Media with Business Management
About this course
Media with business management is a combination built for the reality of how the creative and communications industries actually work. A career in media today requires both an understanding of how content is made and meaning is constructed, and the commercial, managerial and strategic awareness to function within organisations that must sustain themselves in competitive markets. This degree develops both capacities together, rather than treating them as separate domains. At the University of Keele you will develop critical analytical skills in media, learning to understand and interrogate the industries, texts and technologies through which contemporary communication operates. Alongside this you will gain a grounding in the modern business landscape, including international economics, politics and societal factors that shape how media organisations operate. The programme also develops your practical abilities in creative communication and storytelling, so that you can produce as well as analyse. The course runs over three years full time and includes a sandwich year in industry, a year abroad and work placement opportunities, giving you a substantial combination of professional experience and international perspective. Graduates of this combination move into careers across media production, publishing, broadcasting, digital content, public relations, marketing, journalism, communications and arts management. The business management strand makes graduates particularly well suited to roles in media organisations that require both creative and commercial thinking, including roles in strategy, business development, audience development and editorial management. Further study at postgraduate level in media, marketing, communications or business is a natural option for those seeking specialist or leadership careers.
