BA Media Production with Media and Communications Foundation Year
About this course
Media production is a discipline concerned with how moving image, audio, and digital content is conceived, made, and delivered to audiences. It encompasses film and video production, audio production, broadcast journalism, documentary, animation, and the full range of digital and interactive formats that have transformed how media is created and consumed. As the media landscape continues to shift rapidly, the field demands practitioners who are both technically proficient and creatively assured, and who can adapt to new platforms and production contexts throughout their careers. At the University of Lincoln, this four-year full-time programme is built around the creative foundations and technical skills needed to thrive in a professional media environment. The programme opens with a foundation year, giving you a thorough preparation before the main degree begins. A sandwich year is embedded in the programme, providing the opportunity to work within a media organisation before your final year, and a work placement is also part of the degree. These professional experiences are central to the programme's philosophy: media production is best learned by doing, and the connections you build and the work you produce during placement are a genuine part of your education. You will develop skills in camera operation, editing, sound design, directing, producing, and the management of production projects from development through to delivery. Lincoln's emphasis on creative foundations means you will also engage with the history, theory, and social context of media, developing the critical perspective that distinguishes a thoughtful practitioner from a purely technical one. Graduates go on to work in television, film, radio, online video, corporate media, podcasting, advertising, and journalism. Roles include producer, director, editor, camera operator, sound designer, and content creator. The creative and technical skills the degree develops are also transferable to related roles in marketing, communications, and digital media management. Postgraduate study in film, media, or journalism is an option for those wishing to specialise.
