BSc Mathematics and Accounting and Financial Management
About this course
Mathematics and accounting and financial management is a degree equally divided between mathematical rigour and the practical knowledge of accounting and business subjects, providing an ideal platform for those who want to build a career in corporate finance. Mathematics develops exceptional precision in analytical thinking, the ability to work with abstract structures, and quantitative skills that underpin the most technically demanding areas of finance. Accounting and financial management adds the practical knowledge of how financial statements work, how management accounts are used to drive business decisions, and how the theory of corporate finance is applied in real organisations. At Loughborough University, this three-year full-time BSc (Hons) divides your study equally between mathematics and accounting and financial management, so that you develop genuine strength in both rather than a superficial overview of either. You will study calculus, linear algebra, probability, and statistics alongside financial accounting, management accounting, corporate finance, and investment analysis, developing the technical and commercial understanding that employers in financial services and corporate finance most value. Entry typically requires around 152 UCAS tariff points. Graduates are well placed for careers in corporate finance, investment banking, financial analysis, management consultancy, accounting, data science, and technology, where quantitative skills and financial knowledge are both required. The combination is particularly well suited to routes into professional qualifications such as ACA, ACCA, or CFA, and the strong mathematical grounding gives graduates a particular advantage in roles involving financial modelling, risk analysis, and quantitative finance. Many graduates continue to postgraduate study in finance, mathematics, or economics.
