Mathematics and accounting and finance is a combination that addresses a genuine professional need: the finance industry, and increasingly the broader economy, demands people who can bring rigorous quantitative thinking to financial questions that are becoming ever more complex. Accounting and finance deals with how organisations measure, report, and manage their financial performance, and with how capital is allocated through markets and institutions. Mathematics provides the tools, including statistics, probability, calculus, and linear algebra, that underlie modern financial modelling, risk assessment, and investment analysis. At Aberystwyth this three-year full-time programme is multi-accredited by leading accountancy bodies, meaning that graduates receive significant exemptions from professional examinations in recognised qualifications. You will develop an appreciation of advanced mathematical and statistical techniques and their application in business, finance, and accountancy, studying both the theoretical foundations of each discipline and their practical applications. The mathematical side builds the quantitative fluency that is increasingly central to roles in data-driven finance, while the accounting and finance element gives you a thorough understanding of financial reporting, corporate finance, investment, and the regulatory frameworks governing financial practice. The combination produces graduates who are comfortable both with the numbers and with the commercial and regulatory contexts in which those numbers matter. Graduates of this programme are well placed for careers in accountancy, financial analysis, investment management, actuarial work, corporate finance, and quantitative roles in banking and insurance.
