BA/BSc Marketing with Foundation Year
About this course
Marketing is one of the most applied and intellectually varied of the business disciplines, concerned with how organisations understand their customers, develop their offerings, communicate their value, and build lasting relationships. It draws on psychology, sociology, and economics as well as business strategy, and it encompasses market research, branding, advertising, digital marketing, content strategy, and the management of the customer experience. The combination of creative thinking and analytical rigour that strong marketing practice demands makes it one of the most distinctive areas within business education. At Derby, this programme includes a foundation year for students who do not have the required grades for direct entry, providing a structured and supported pathway into degree-level marketing study. The full programme incorporates a sandwich placement year and embedded work placement opportunities, giving you substantial professional experience alongside your academic training. The programme is offered part-time, making it accessible to those managing work or other commitments alongside study. You will develop your understanding of marketing strategy, consumer behaviour, brand management, digital marketing, market research, and communications, building both the analytical and creative competencies that marketing careers require. Graduates of marketing programmes pursue careers in brand management, digital marketing, market research, public relations, advertising, content strategy, and commercial roles across the private and public sectors. The combination of business grounding and marketing specialisation is valued by a wide range of employers. Many graduates also go on to professional qualifications or postgraduate study in marketing, business, or communications, deepening the expertise they begin to develop during the degree.
