BA Marketing and Psychology (SBS)
About this course
Marketing and psychology is a combination that recognises a fundamental truth about how markets work: understanding why people make the decisions they do is at the heart of effective marketing. Psychology provides the scientific framework for understanding perception, motivation, attitude formation, decision-making, and behaviour, while marketing applies that understanding to the strategic challenge of reaching and engaging customers, building brands, and communicating value. Together, the two disciplines develop graduates with both the analytical rigour of psychology and the commercial awareness of marketing. The University of Strathclyde's four-year full-time Marketing and Psychology degree carries a typical entry tariff of 216 points and includes a year abroad option. The Strathclyde Business School provides a strong research and industry-connected environment for the marketing strand, with a Management Development Programme that gives students practical employability skills and the opportunity to work on live marketing projects, as the course itself notes. You will develop skills in consumer behaviour, brand management, digital marketing, market research, campaign planning, and strategic marketing management, alongside psychology content covering cognitive, social, developmental, and applied psychology. The combination develops both the quantitative and analytical skills of psychology and the creative and strategic thinking of marketing. Graduates work in marketing management, consumer insights, market research, brand management, digital marketing, advertising, public relations, product management, and user experience research. The psychological understanding of consumer behaviour is particularly valued in organisations that want to go beyond surface-level data and understand the deeper drivers of customer decision-making. Postgraduate study in marketing, consumer psychology, or business analytics is a natural next step for those wanting to specialise.
