LLB Law with French
About this course
Law with French is an integrated programme that brings together a qualifying law degree with the study of French language, law, and culture. The combination is particularly valuable in a world where legal practice increasingly crosses borders: many of the most significant commercial, regulatory, and human rights questions are resolved in international and multi-jurisdictional contexts, and a lawyer who can operate in French as well as English has a genuine advantage in that environment. This four-year full-time programme at Queen's University of Belfast develops your knowledge of the law of Northern Ireland alongside aspects of French law, giving you a comparative perspective on legal systems that enriches your understanding of both. The degree includes a year abroad, which provides a unique opportunity for linguistic development in an academic or professional legal environment, and the experience of studying and potentially working in a French-speaking country gives you the cultural intelligence and language confidence that international legal careers demand. In a globalised workforce, proficiency in an additional language combined with the experience of studying abroad significantly enhances your employability across the full range of careers open to law graduates. With a typical entry tariff of 168 points, the programme is demanding and suited to students who combine linguistic ability with a serious interest in the law. Graduates are well placed for careers in legal practice as solicitors and barristers, as well as in international law, European institutions, public international law organisations, legal consulting, and roles in government and commerce where both legal and French-language skills are valued. Many also pursue professional legal qualifications in Northern Ireland, England and Wales, or other jurisdictions.
