BA Law and Practice with foundation year
About this course
Law and practice is a degree that takes legal education seriously as both an intellectual discipline and a professional preparation, combining the rigorous analytical training of academic law with explicit attention to the skills and contexts of legal practice. Law provides the rule systems and reasoning frameworks through which societies organise disputes, rights, and obligations. Practice asks how that knowledge is actually applied by solicitors, barristers, and other legal professionals in the real world, and how the gap between legal theory and professional reality can be navigated. At CU Coventry, this four-year full-time programme includes an integrated foundation year, making it accessible to students from a wide range of backgrounds who wish to build their academic and legal foundations before progressing to the full degree. The programme includes a sandwich year with a year abroad and work placement, giving you direct professional experience in a legal setting and international exposure to how law operates in different jurisdictions. Entry typically requires around 88 UCAS tariff points. Law and practice graduates are well placed to pursue qualification as solicitors through the Solicitors Qualifying Examination or as barristers through the Bar Professional Training Course. The explicit focus on practice alongside academic law also prepares graduates for roles in legal support, paralegal work, compliance, human resources, and the many commercial and public sector roles in which legal knowledge and practical reasoning are valued. Many graduates continue to postgraduate study in specialist legal fields.
