BA Law and Politics
About this course
Law and politics is a combination that addresses two of the most powerful forces that shape how societies are organised and governed. Law defines rights, obligations, and the mechanisms through which disputes are resolved and conduct regulated. Politics examines how power is acquired, exercised, and contested, and how the decisions that affect collective life are made, justified, and challenged. The two disciplines are deeply intertwined: law is always a political product, shaped by the ideologies, interests, and power structures of the societies that create it, and politics is always constrained and enabled by legal frameworks. At Liverpool Hope University, you will study law and politics over three years full-time, developing rigorous knowledge of the English legal system and the core areas of law alongside a thorough grounding in political theory, institutions, and the processes of governance. The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and work placement provision, giving you professional experience in legal, political, or public sector environments and an international perspective before you graduate. The combination of doctrinal legal knowledge and political analysis is particularly valuable for careers at the intersection of law, policy, and public life. The typical entry tariff is 88 UCAS points. Graduates work in legal practice (following the appropriate professional training), public policy, the civil service, local government, political organisations, NGOs, legal aid, advocacy, and the many careers in which understanding both the law and the political processes that shape it is directly useful. Many also go on to postgraduate study in law, politics, public policy, or related disciplines.
