BSc International Tourism with Hospitality Management
About this course
International tourism and hospitality management is a degree that prepares you for two of the world's largest and most globally interconnected industries. Tourism generates hundreds of millions of jobs worldwide, and hospitality encompasses the hotels, restaurants, resorts, cruise lines and event venues that serve both tourists and local populations. Together, they require professionals who understand consumer behaviour, service design, operations management, marketing and the cultural sensitivities involved in welcoming guests from every part of the world. At the University of Bedfordshire, this three-year full-time degree benefits from its location close to London Luton Airport and to major employers including airlines and hotel chains, giving you access to industry-relevant opportunities that are unusually immediate for an undergraduate programme. You will study tourism behaviour and destination management, hospitality operations, marketing for tourism and hospitality, food and beverage management, human resources in the service industries, financial management and the sustainable development challenges facing both industries as they grapple with their environmental footprint. The proximity to working industry environments in and around Luton gives the programme a practical orientation, and many students benefit from part-time and placement work alongside their studies. The degree develops both your commercial knowledge and the interpersonal and intercultural skills that service industries particularly value. Graduates pursue careers in hotels, airlines, travel agencies, tour operators, destination management organisations, events management companies, cruise lines and visitor attractions. Roles include hotel management, revenue management, tourism development, events coordination, marketing and operations management. The international nature of both industries means that language skills and international experience are additional assets, and many graduates progress into management roles within a few years of graduation, supported by the leadership skills the degree develops alongside its commercial content.
