BA International Tourism Management (with Professional Placement Year)
About this course
International tourism management is the study of one of the world's largest and most complex industries, examining how places around the world benefit from and manage tourism, how it is marketed, how tourism businesses operate, and what the future challenges facing the sector are, particularly in terms of sustainability. Tourism is a global phenomenon that connects economics, culture, environment, and politics, and managing it responsibly is increasingly recognised as one of the defining challenges of the twenty-first century. At the University of Chester, this four-year full-time programme develops your understanding of tourism management from both theoretical and practical perspectives. You will learn from industry experts and academics, studying destination management, marketing, hospitality operations, sustainability in tourism, and the business principles that underpin successful tourism enterprises. The programme includes a professional placement year with direct industry experience, as well as a year abroad that gives you international exposure to how tourism operates in different cultural and regulatory environments. Entry typically requires around 120 UCAS tariff points. International tourism management graduates go on to work in destination management organisations, tour operators, hotels and hospitality businesses, airlines, tourist boards, international development agencies, and government bodies responsible for tourism policy. The combination of business knowledge with international experience and sustainability awareness prepares graduates for careers in an industry that is evolving rapidly in response to changing consumer expectations and environmental pressures. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in tourism, hospitality management, or international business.
