BSc International Tourism Management
About this course
International tourism management is concerned with one of the world's largest and most complex industries, an industry that spans hospitality, aviation, destination marketing, sustainability, cultural heritage, and economic development. Understanding tourism means understanding how people make decisions about travel, how destinations compete for visitors, how global events disrupt demand, and how the industry can operate responsibly in a world increasingly aware of its environmental and cultural footprint. At the University of Surrey, you will study the theory and practice of tourism management with an international perspective, exploring topics including destination management, consumer behaviour, digital marketing, and the economics of global travel. The programme integrates digital skills and AI literacy throughout, reflecting the industry's growing reliance on data, automation, and platform technology, and building the confidence and creativity that employers increasingly value. You will develop both analytical and professional competencies, learning to think strategically about how tourism businesses and destinations are managed and marketed. The programme runs over three years full-time. Graduates of international tourism management programmes pursue careers across the tourism and hospitality sector, in destination management organisations, travel companies, airlines, hotel groups, event management, and consultancy. The global scope of the degree also opens roles in international development, where tourism intersects with economic growth in emerging economies. Many graduates continue to postgraduate study in tourism, hospitality management, or business, or move into related areas such as events, retail, and communications where their customer insight and management skills are valued.
