BA International Relations with Foundation Year
About this course
International relations examines the forces that shape interactions between states and other actors in a world without a central governing authority, asking why cooperation and conflict arise, how power is distributed and contested across borders, and what institutions and norms help govern global affairs. From human rights and climate change to war, migration, and the fragility of international institutions, the questions the discipline addresses have direct bearing on the most important challenges of our time. This four-year full-time degree at the University of Keele includes a foundation year, giving students who need additional academic preparation the opportunity to build their skills and knowledge before entering the main programme. You will explore world politics through a range of theoretical frameworks and empirical case studies, developing the ability to interpret global, social, political, and economic interactions with analytical rigour and critical awareness. The programme covers topics including human rights protection, climate diplomacy, war and peace, populism, foreign policy, and the functioning of international organisations, drawing on Keele's broad research expertise across the discipline. The foundation year eases your transition into higher education, ensuring you are thoroughly prepared for the more demanding work of the degree years. A typical entry tariff of 104 UCAS points reflects an inclusive admissions approach. Graduates from international relations programmes at Keele pursue careers in government and the civil service, diplomacy, international organisations, journalism, non-governmental organisations, policy research, international business, and political communications. Many continue to postgraduate study in international relations, security studies, global governance, or related fields.
