About this course
International relations is the study of how states, international organisations, non-state actors, and other forces interact in the global arena, examining the causes of conflict and cooperation, the dynamics of trade and diplomacy, the politics of international institutions, and the evolving norms and laws that govern relations between countries. It is a discipline that draws on political science, history, economics, and international law to engage with the forces that shape global affairs, from the shifting balance of power between major states to the challenges of climate change, migration, terrorism, and the future of global governance. At Leeds Beckett University, this three-year full-time programme develops your understanding of international politics, foreign policy, security, international political economy, and global institutions, equipping you to analyse the forces that are reshaping the international order and the possibilities for collective action in response to shared global challenges. You will engage with both theoretical frameworks and empirical case studies, developing the research, analytical, and communication skills that are essential in careers that require a sophisticated understanding of international affairs. A year abroad is part of the programme, giving you the opportunity to engage with international relations in an international context. With a typical entry tariff of 104 UCAS points, this programme is accessible to students with strong analytical ability and a genuine interest in global affairs. Graduates pursue careers in the civil service, diplomatic service, international organisations, NGOs, think tanks, journalism, security and intelligence, international business, humanitarian work, law, and development. The analytical, research, and communication skills that international relations develops are valued across many sectors engaged with the global dimensions of their work. Many graduates continue to postgraduate study in international relations, security studies, international law, or global governance.
