BSc Interactive Media
About this course
Interactive media sits at the meeting point of technology, design, and storytelling, encompassing the creation of experiences that respond to user input and invite active participation. From video games and virtual reality to web applications, interactive narratives, and augmented reality environments, the field asks how digital technologies can be shaped to create compelling, meaningful, and usable experiences. Studying interactive media means developing both the technical skills to build these experiences and the conceptual understanding to design them well. At the University of York, this three-year full-time degree allows you to tailor your studies to your particular interests and career goals through a wide range of option modules, whether you are interested in VR, AR, games, 3D environments, UX and UI design, web applications, or interactive storytelling. You will combine practical project work with theoretical understanding, exploring the societal impact of interactive media and developing a rigorous understanding of how user experience drives innovation. The programme's facilities are designed for professional-level creative and technical work. A sandwich year, year abroad, and work placement opportunities are built in. The typical entry tariff is 152 points. Interactive media graduates pursue careers across a range of creative and technical sectors. Many work in games development, UX and UI design, web development, app development, virtual reality production, and digital marketing. Others move into film and television interactive, education technology, and the broader creative industries where digital interactivity is becoming central. The combination of technical skill, design thinking, and critical understanding makes graduates valuable across any organisation grappling with how to create engaging digital experiences. Postgraduate study in interaction design, computer science, or digital media is a natural continuation.
