BA Hospitality Management
About this course
Hospitality management is the study of how hotels, restaurants, resorts, and related businesses are planned, operated, and led. It encompasses the full range of management disciplines, from finance and marketing to human resources and operations, all applied to an industry defined by the quality of service it provides and the experiences it creates for its customers. The hospitality sector is one of the most international and people-focused in the economy, and managing within it demands both commercial acumen and an understanding of what makes guest experiences genuinely excellent. At the University of the Highlands and Islands, you can study hospitality management over four years, with the flexibility of a programme that can be tailored to your schedule. You will study the principles of hospitality operations, food and beverage management, accommodation management, marketing, financial control, and leadership, developing the practical and strategic skills to manage in a sector that is fast-paced and service-critical. The programme develops your understanding of the commercial drivers of the industry alongside the interpersonal and operational skills that delivering excellent hospitality requires. UHI's location in the Scottish Highlands, one of the UK's most distinctive tourism destinations, provides a relevant and inspiring context for the study of hospitality management, with access to a range of tourism and hospitality businesses as part of your learning environment. Graduates of hospitality management find careers in hotels, restaurants, food and beverage operations, conference and events venues, and the wider tourism industry, in roles ranging from operations management and food and beverage management to revenue management and general management. Many graduates also move into consultancy, supplier-side roles, or hospitality education, and postgraduate study in hospitality, tourism, or business management is a natural next step for those who want to develop their expertise further or move into more strategic leadership roles.
