History and Media and Communication together form a pairing that makes particular sense for anyone trying to understand how narratives about the past and present are constructed, contested and circulated. At Liverpool Hope University this four-year full-time degree includes a foundation year, giving you time to build the academic skills and subject knowledge you need before entering the main programme. Your history studies will take you across a wide chronological and thematic range, from the Early Modern period to the present day, examining key themes such as nationalism, imperialism, colonisation, decolonisation, gender and identity. You will be encouraged to engage critically with interpretations and to recognise that history is always in the process of being revised and contested. The programme also includes a sandwich year, a year abroad and a work placement, giving you substantial opportunity to develop professional and international experience alongside your academic studies. Graduates from History and Media and Communication degrees are well placed for careers across a wide range of sectors.
