Global Politics and International Relations is the study of how power operates beyond the borders of individual states, and of the institutions, ideas, and conflicts that shape the world order. The discipline draws on political theory, history, economics, and sociology to examine questions of war and peace, international organisations, human rights, global governance, climate diplomacy, migration, and the rise and fall of great powers. It asks not only what is happening in the world but why, and develops the analytical habits needed to evaluate competing explanations and policy responses. At Birkbeck College in London, this part-time programme provides a strong foundation in international politics while developing the verbal and analytical skills that allow graduates to engage seriously with global affairs, whether in professional or academic contexts.
