BA Global Philosophy & Worldviews and Politics
About this course
Global Philosophy and Worldviews and Politics is a combination that invites you to think seriously about the deepest questions human beings have asked about existence, justice, and how life ought to be lived, while also examining the practical and institutional dimensions of how societies organise power and make collective decisions. Philosophy in its global form reaches beyond the Western canon to engage with African, Chinese, South Asian, Islamic, Jewish, and Buddhist traditions of thought, recognising that the history of human reflection on ethics, knowledge, and meaning is far richer and more varied than any single cultural tradition can contain. Politics examines how that diversity of values is navigated within and between states, and how institutions, ideologies, and movements shape public life. At Liverpool Hope University, this full-time programme runs over three years and includes a sandwich year and a year abroad, as well as work placement opportunities. You will explore big questions about truth, value, justice, and what it means to be human through philosophical traditions that span cultures and centuries, engaging with African philosophy, Chinese ethics, Hindu thought, Islamic political philosophy, Jewish existentialism, and Buddhist metaphysics alongside Western analytic and continental traditions. The politics strand connects this philosophical breadth to the practical study of political systems, ideologies, and global governance. The year abroad and sandwich year give you professional and cross-cultural experience that complements the global orientation of the degree. Graduates of this combination are well prepared for careers in policy, public service, international organisations, education, journalism, law, and the voluntary sector. The analytical and communicative skills developed through philosophical study are widely valued, and the political dimension adds practical knowledge of how institutions function and how change happens. Many graduates continue to postgraduate study in philosophy, politics, ethics, religious studies, or related fields, and others pursue professional training in teaching, law, or public administration.
