BSc Geography and Sport Science
About this course
Geography and sport science is an unusual but coherent combination that brings together the study of how physical and social processes shape our planet with the scientific study of human physical performance and health. Geography develops your understanding of environmental systems, human geography, spatial patterns of inequality, and the relationship between people and their environments. Sport science examines the physiological, psychological, and biomechanical dimensions of physical performance and exercise, asking how the body responds to training and how that knowledge can be applied to improve health and athletic capability. At Loughborough University, this three-year full-time BSc aims to develop your understanding of how physical and social processes affect our rapidly changing planet while also enhancing your knowledge of sport science. You will study physical and human geography, quantitative research methods, and environmental analysis alongside physiology, biomechanics, sport psychology, and exercise science, building a breadth of knowledge that few degree programmes can match. The combination is particularly relevant for careers at the intersection of health, environment, and society. Entry typically requires around 152 UCAS tariff points. Graduates work in sport science support, fitness and health promotion, environmental consultancy, physical activity and health policy, outdoor education, sport development, and a wide range of community and public health roles. The strong scientific training in both disciplines also provides a foundation for postgraduate study in geography, exercise science, health, or related fields. The breadth of the degree's coverage makes graduates versatile and adaptable across multiple professional contexts.
