BA French and Human Resource Management
About this course
French and Human Resource Management brings together two disciplines that are both, in their different ways, concerned with people: French with the language, culture, and communication that connects communities across the world, and HRM with the professional practice of managing people effectively within organisations. French is a major international language, spoken as a first language by over 100 million people and used as a second language by many more across Europe, Africa, Canada, and the Caribbean. HRM provides the frameworks for understanding how to recruit, develop, reward, and retain talent in ways that serve both individuals and organisations. At the University of Strathclyde, this four-year, full-time programme develops your French language skills to a high level while also giving you a thorough grounding in the theory and practice of human resource management. You will engage with French literature, culture, and contemporary life alongside the core HRM disciplines of employment law, organisational behaviour, performance management, learning and development, and workforce planning. The combination prepares you for HR roles in organisations with French-speaking operations or international remits, and for any professional environment where language skill and people management knowledge are both valued. Graduates are well-placed for careers in international HR, talent management, learning and development, organisational development, and general business management in companies operating across French-speaking markets. Professional qualifications such as those offered by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development complement the academic degree and are a natural next step for those pursuing an HR career. Others use the French language foundation to move into roles in translation, education, journalism, the cultural sector, or international organisations.
