MSci Forensic and Analytical Science with Industrial Experience
About this course
Forensic and analytical science is a discipline that applies the techniques of chemistry, biology, and physics to the investigation of crime and to the quality control and analysis problems that arise in pharmaceutical, environmental, and industrial contexts. Forensic scientists analyse physical evidence from crime scenes, provide expert testimony, and help investigators understand the chemical and biological meaning of what they find. Analytical science provides the methodological foundations, from spectroscopy and chromatography to mass spectrometry and microscopy, that make these investigations possible. The four-year full-time Forensic and Analytical Science with Industrial Experience programme at the University of Huddersfield is available with a foundation year for students who need additional preparation. The programme includes an industrial experience year, which is a full year working in a research, analytical, or forensic science environment before you complete your degree. Huddersfield's specialised laboratories and crime-scene facilities give you hands-on experience with the tools and processes used in real-life investigations, and simulated scenarios provide practical challenges that test your knowledge and decision-making in realistic forensic contexts. The research-oriented structure of the programme, which leads to an MSci rather than a BSc, means you engage with science at a deeper and more independent level than most undergraduate programmes, developing the investigative mindset that both research and professional practice demand. With a typical entry tariff of 104 points and a foundation year option, the programme provides a supported route into a rigorous scientific career. Graduates pursue careers in forensic science services, analytical laboratories, pharmaceutical companies, environmental agencies, and the police and prosecution services. Many also go on to postgraduate research or specialist professional training in forensic science, analytical chemistry, or toxicology.
