BA Fine Art
About this course
Fine Art is one of the most open-ended and exploratory disciplines in higher education, concerned with the development of a personal artistic practice and a critical understanding of the history and theory of art from the ancient world to the present. Students of fine art develop skills across painting and drawing, sculpture, printmaking, textiles, lens-based and time-based media, alongside the intellectual and critical capabilities needed to situate their work in relation to the history of art and to articulate what their practice is about and why it matters. A fine art degree is both a technical and an intellectual education, and the studio remains at its centre. At Liverpool Hope University, this full-time three-year programme includes a sandwich placement year, a year abroad and work placement opportunities, providing structured professional and international experience alongside the core studio practice and critical studies curriculum. You will have the opportunity to participate in international study trips and take part in the annual Angelfield Festival, the university's showcase event for creative work at its Creative Campus. The combination of studio practice, art historical study, research skills and professional experience makes the degree a comprehensive preparation for a life in and around the arts. Fine Art graduates go on to careers as practising artists, art educators, curators, gallery workers, arts administrators, community arts practitioners and art therapists. Many graduates develop portfolio careers combining studio practice with teaching, arts development and other creative and cultural work. The analytical, creative and reflective skills developed through a fine art degree are also valued in design, advertising, publishing and the creative industries more broadly. Postgraduate study in fine art, curating or arts education is a well-supported route for those who wish to deepen their practice or develop specialist expertise.
