Film studies examines cinema as both an art form and a social practice, asking not only how films are made but what they mean, how they work on audiences, and what they reveal about the cultures that produce them. It draws on aesthetics, semiotics, psychoanalysis, cultural theory, and history to build a rigorous analytical framework for understanding moving image media in all its forms, from classical Hollywood to international art cinema, documentary to experimental film, and the increasingly blurred boundaries of contemporary screen culture.
