BA Film and Television Production with a Year Abroad
About this course
Film and television production is the craft and practice of creating moving image content for screen, combining the artistic and narrative dimensions of filmmaking with the technical skills of camera, lighting, sound, editing and post-production. It is a discipline that requires both creative vision and the ability to execute that vision within real constraints of time, budget and technology. As streaming has transformed the market for television and as digital production tools have become more accessible, the range of contexts in which film and television production skills are practised has expanded dramatically. At the University of East Anglia, this four-year programme includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study film and television production at an international partner institution and experience screen culture and production practice in a different national context. You will develop practical skills in scriptwriting, directing, camera work, sound design, editing and post-production, alongside the critical and theoretical frameworks that help you situate your practice within a broader understanding of film as art, industry and cultural form. UEA's School of Film, Television and Media Studies brings together production practice and screen studies in a way that develops both your technical competence and your critical intelligence. The typical entry tariff is 120 UCAS points. Graduates work in television production, documentary filmmaking, feature film production, corporate and commercial video, post-production, digital content creation and broadcast journalism. The industry is competitive, and many graduates begin their careers in runner, assistant or junior production roles before progressing to more senior creative and technical positions. The year abroad adds an international professional perspective that can be valuable in a global screen industry. Some graduates also continue to postgraduate study in film, media production or screen studies.
