BA Fashion with Diploma in Creative Professional Development
About this course
Fashion as a discipline is much more than the production of clothing: it is one of the most culturally significant and economically complex creative industries in the world, encompassing design, production, branding, communication, retail and the shifting cultural meanings attached to what we wear. A fashion degree develops the creative thinking, technical skill and commercial awareness needed to contribute to this industry at a professional level, across design, buying, styling, art direction and many other specialisms. At Norwich University of the Arts, this five-year full-time programme includes a Diploma in Creative Professional Development embedded in its structure, which provides additional professional formation beyond the standard three-year degree. This extended engagement reflects NUA's commitment to preparing graduates who are genuinely work-ready, with the practical experience and professional identity to succeed across the creative industries. The programme combines creative thinking with technical skill, developing your ability to design, make and communicate fashion at a high level. You will develop skills in fashion design and construction, fabric and material knowledge, illustration and visual communication, research and concept development, and the cultural and historical knowledge to situate your work within the broader context of fashion. The Diploma element provides structured professional development that may include work experience, live project briefs and the development of a professional portfolio and practice. Graduates go on to careers as fashion designers, buyers, stylists, art directors, fashion journalists, costume designers, pattern cutters, fashion educators and creative directors, as well as in roles in adjacent creative industries. Some build their own brands or freelance practices. Others go on to postgraduate study in fashion design, fashion communication or creative direction.
