BA Fashion, Marketing and Communication with Foundation Year
About this course
Fashion, marketing and communication sit at the convergence of creativity, commerce and culture. Fashion is a global industry that shapes identity and reflects social change; marketing is the discipline of understanding audiences and communicating value; and communication encompasses the verbal, visual and digital languages through which brands and organisations speak to the world. Studying all three together at the University of Derby gives you a versatile education that spans the creative, analytical and strategic dimensions of the contemporary fashion and media landscape. This four-year full-time programme opens with a foundation year, giving you a thorough grounding in the subject before you progress to the main degree. The programme also includes a sandwich placement year, a year abroad and a work placement, meaning you will accumulate substantial real-world and international experience before graduation. You will study topics including fashion history and theory, brand management, consumer behaviour, digital marketing, content creation, public relations, visual communication and the business structures of the fashion industry. The programme develops both your creative confidence and your commercial awareness, preparing you to work across the creative and business dimensions of fashion. Graduates move into roles in fashion marketing, brand management, public relations, content creation, buying, styling, digital communications and social media. The broad scope of the degree means you can move towards creative or commercial roles depending on where your strengths and interests lie. Many graduates also go on to postgraduate study, and the international and professional experience built into the programme gives you a strong foundation from which to launch a career in an industry that operates globally.
