BA Fashion Journalism and Content Creation
About this course
Fashion journalism and content creation sits at the intersection of fashion as a cultural and commercial phenomenon and the rapidly evolving landscape of media and communication. Fashion has always needed writers, editors, critics and communicators to make sense of it for audiences: to explain trends, profile designers, review collections, and position brands in relation to culture and identity. In the digital era, that need has expanded dramatically, with brands, publications, influencers and platforms all producing content across multiple channels in multiple formats continuously. Fashion journalism has become fashion content, and the skills required span writing, visual communication, digital media and strategic thinking. At the University of the Arts, London, this three-year full-time degree is taught within one of the world's most prestigious arts institutions and in one of fashion's most important cities. You will develop your writing, editing and critical analysis skills alongside practical competence in digital content creation, including social media, video, photography, podcasting and online journalism. The programme engages seriously with fashion as a cultural, social and commercial system, and you will develop the analytical and critical vocabulary to write about it with authority and intelligence. A sandwich year placement and a work placement are built into the programme, giving you significant professional experience in fashion media, journalism or brand communications. You will build a portfolio of writing and content that demonstrates your range and voice, and you will develop the professional skills to work across a variety of platforms and publishing contexts. Graduates move into fashion and lifestyle journalism, magazine editing, brand content and editorial, influencer marketing, copywriting, PR and communications, social media management, and digital media production in fashion, luxury, and related creative industries. The combination of UAL's reputation and its London location is a significant asset in a competitive and network-driven field.
