BA Fashion Design
About this course
Fashion design is the creative and technical discipline concerned with conceiving and producing clothing and accessories that reflect cultural moments, individual identity and commercial realities. At its best, fashion design is both art and industry: it requires genuine creative vision alongside the technical skills of pattern cutting, construction, material selection and production knowledge, and a deep understanding of the consumer, the market and the cultural context in which garments will be worn. It is a discipline that rewards originality, discipline and the ability to turn ideas into tangible, wearable objects. At Regent's University London you will study fashion design over three years of full-time study, developing the full range of skills from initial concept through sketching and prototyping to final construction and collection presentation. You will learn to design and create marketable collections that balance your personal creative voice with the needs of the consumer, conducting customer research and creative experimentation as the basis for original design work. A year abroad is built into the programme, providing immersive experience of fashion cultures and industries beyond the UK and broadening your creative and professional perspective. London's position as one of the world's major fashion capitals gives the programme direct access to a rich ecosystem of designers, buyers, manufacturers and retailers. Graduates pursue careers as fashion designers, pattern cutters, product developers, fashion buyers, visual merchandisers, fashion stylists, art directors, trend forecasters and fashion educators. Some establish their own labels, while others work within established fashion houses, high street retailers, luxury brands or the costume departments of film and television. Many graduates also work in adjacent creative fields including textile design, accessories and interiors. Postgraduate study in fashion design, sustainable fashion or fashion business provides routes to specialist expertise or senior creative roles. London's fashion industry provides strong graduate employment connections, and the city's breadth of fashion activity means that graduates enter a genuinely diverse and internationally connected creative sector.
