BSc Esports
About this course
Esports is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the entertainment industry, with a global audience in the hundreds of millions and a professional ecosystem encompassing teams, leagues, broadcasters, sponsors, event organisers, coaches, analysts, and content creators. Studying esports at degree level is not primarily about being a better gamer: it is about understanding the industry, the communities, the performance science, and the commercial and organisational dynamics that make competitive gaming a serious professional field. This three-year full-time programme at the University of Northampton approaches esports from multiple angles, combining sport science and performance analysis perspectives with business, management, and media dimensions. You will study how esports athletes train and how their performance can be measured and improved, how esports organisations are managed and how they generate revenue, how esports events are produced and broadcast, and how the communities and cultures around competitive gaming work. With a typical tariff of 104 points, the programme is accessible to students who are genuinely engaged with esports and motivated to understand it as an industry, not just as a hobby. Northampton has invested in esports facilities and industry connections that support this kind of applied study, and the programme reflects the seriousness with which the university takes the subject. You will develop analytical skills alongside practical understanding of how the esports industry functions across its many dimensions. Graduates move into careers in esports event management, team operations, performance coaching, content creation, broadcasting, sponsorship and partnerships, community management, and a wide range of roles in the gaming and entertainment industries. The business and management dimensions of the programme also prepare graduates for commercial roles in sectors adjacent to esports, including digital media, sports marketing, and entertainment.
