BSc Environmental Science (With Foundation Year)
About this course
Environmental science is the interdisciplinary study of the natural world and the human systems that affect it. It draws on biology, chemistry, geology, physics, geography, and the social sciences to address some of the most complex and consequential challenges of our time: climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, water security, and the sustainable management of land and natural resources. The discipline develops both the scientific understanding and the practical skills needed to measure, model, and respond to environmental change across a wide range of scales and settings. The four-year full-time Environmental Science programme with Foundation Year at Liverpool Hope University equips you with the skills to address global environmental challenges. The foundation year provides the scientific and academic preparation needed to succeed in degree-level study, and is particularly suitable for students whose prior qualifications are in different areas or who need to rebuild their scientific confidence. The main programme develops practical and theoretical knowledge relevant to tackling issues such as climate change, habitat loss, resource management, and biodiversity conservation, building the fieldwork, laboratory, and data analysis skills that environmental scientists need alongside the theoretical understanding to make sense of what they observe. A sandwich year, year abroad, and work placement options provide substantial professional and international experience within the degree structure, which is valuable in a field where fieldwork experience and knowledge of different environmental contexts strengthens your professional capabilities. With a typical entry tariff of 104 points, the programme is accessible to a wide range of students who are genuinely concerned about the environment and motivated to contribute to solutions. Graduates pursue careers in environmental consultancy, conservation, government agencies, international development, climate research, education, and sustainability roles within the public and private sectors. Many go on to postgraduate study in environmental science, ecology, sustainability, or related fields.
