BSc Environment and Sustainability
About this course
Environment and sustainability is a field born of one of the defining challenges of our time. Understanding how ecological systems function, how human activity is transforming them, and what policies, technologies, and behaviours might enable a more sustainable future requires integrating knowledge from the natural sciences, social sciences, and policy analysis. It is a genuinely interdisciplinary subject, and one where the intellectual stakes are very high. At the University of the West of England, Bristol, this three-year full-time programme gives you a strong grounding in environmental systems and the human impacts on them, preparing you for an environmentally focused career with the skills and knowledge that employers in the public, private, and voluntary sectors need. UWE Bristol has been recognised for its own work towards sustainable futures, which creates an institutional context that takes the subject seriously beyond the curriculum. You will study ecology, climate science, environmental policy, sustainability management, and the social and economic dimensions of environmental change, developing both the analytical skills to understand complex systems and the professional competencies to act within them. The course includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and work placement opportunities, making this one of the more richly structured undergraduate programmes available in the field. These experiences give you professional context, international perspective, and the evidence of capability that employers find valuable. The typical entry tariff is 120 UCAS points. Graduates go on to careers in environmental consultancy, sustainability management, conservation, urban planning, government, NGOs, international development, and research. Further study options include postgraduate programmes in environmental management, sustainability, ecology, and climate policy.
