BA Environment and Business
About this course
As the world wrestles with how to achieve net zero and build more sustainable economies, the demand for professionals who understand both business and environmental systems has grown rapidly. Environment and business is a degree that addresses this demand directly, preparing graduates to work at the intersection of corporate strategy, environmental management, and sustainability policy. It recognises that the transition to a more sustainable economy will require not just new technologies but new business models, new forms of leadership, and new ways of measuring and reporting value. At the University of Leeds, you will develop the knowledge and skills needed to drive sustainable initiatives, ensure businesses operate efficiently, enhance corporate reputation, and help safeguard the planet for future generations. The programme covers environmental science, sustainability strategy, corporate responsibility, environmental law and policy, and the economics of the green transition, building both analytical understanding and the practical competencies that employers in this space need. It includes a sandwich placement year, a year abroad, and a work placement, ensuring that your academic learning is complemented by significant professional and international experience. The programme runs over three years full-time. Graduates of environment and business programmes pursue careers in sustainability consulting, corporate environmental management, ESG analysis, policy and regulation, green finance, international development, and NGOs. The combination of business acumen and environmental expertise is increasingly sought after across all sectors as organisations respond to regulatory, investor, and consumer pressure to demonstrate genuine environmental commitment. Many graduates also go on to postgraduate study in environmental management, sustainability, or business.
