BA English with Business Studies
About this course
English with business studies is a combination that brings together two disciplines which, at first glance, might seem to belong to different worlds, but which in practice complement each other in important ways. The study of English, particularly language and literature, develops your ability to read critically, write clearly, construct persuasive arguments and interpret complex texts. Business studies provides frameworks for understanding how organisations operate, how markets function and how strategic decisions are made. Together, they produce graduates who can communicate exceptionally well and who also understand the commercial environments in which that communication takes place. At Loughborough University, this three-year programme is designed for students who are passionate about language and literature and who also want to develop a practical understanding of business. You will study the literary and linguistic dimensions of English alongside core business disciplines, gaining both the analytical depth that the humanities provide and the practical knowledge that business education offers. The programme reflects Loughborough's emphasis on employability and real-world relevance, and you will develop skills in written and verbal communication, analysis and professional presentation that are directly applicable across many career paths. The combination of English and business opens a broad range of career possibilities. Many graduates move into marketing, communications, public relations, publishing, content creation and media, where the ability to write well is central. Others pursue careers in management, consulting, human resources or the civil service, where the capacity for clear analysis and expression is equally valued. Teaching, law and journalism are also common destinations. Postgraduate study in English, business administration, marketing or media and communications is a natural next step for those who want to specialise further.
