MEng Engineering with Business - integrated with Placement Year
About this course
Engineering with business is a degree that addresses the reality that most significant engineering work happens within commercial organisations, where technical decisions are inseparable from financial, strategic and managerial ones. Pure engineering training produces graduates who can solve technical problems; engineering with business produces graduates who can also understand the context in which those problems arise, communicate their solutions to non-technical stakeholders, manage projects and resources, and contribute to the commercial viability of the organisations they work in. At Brunel University London this five-year, full-time programme includes a foundation year and a placement year, making it accessible to a wide range of students and giving you substantial professional experience during your studies. You will develop the general scientific, mathematical and technical skills needed to understand engineering designs and systems alongside key management skills, business model development, entrepreneurship, financial management, accounting and project management. The broad engineering foundation means you can work across the engineering sector rather than being confined to a single specialism. Engineering with business graduates work in technical management roles, project management, product development, consultancy, operations management and business development across manufacturing, construction, energy, automotive, aerospace and the full range of engineering-intensive industries. Many graduates move into management consultancy, where engineering and business training is a particularly valued combination. Others pursue roles in technology entrepreneurship, corporate strategy or financial analysis of engineering companies. Postgraduate study in engineering management, technology management or MBA programmes is a natural route for those who want to develop leadership credentials in technical organisations.
