MEng Electronic and Digital Systems
About this course
Electronic and digital systems sit at the core of modern technology, from the microprocessors inside smartphones and laptops to the communication networks that connect the world and the control systems embedded in vehicles, aircraft, and industrial machinery. Spectacular advances in semiconductor technology have made it possible to put extraordinary capabilities into ever-smaller devices, and the engineers who design and develop these systems are responsible for some of the most consequential and fast-moving areas of technological change. Electronic and digital engineering is a discipline that combines rigorous physical science with creative problem-solving and the ability to manage complexity at many levels simultaneously. At the University of Strathclyde, this five-year full-time programme develops your knowledge and skills across the full breadth of electronic and digital engineering, covering digital systems design, analogue electronics, signal processing, embedded systems, communications, control, power electronics, and the software tools and programming skills that modern engineering requires. Strathclyde is a leading technical university with a strong tradition of engineering education and close connections to industry, and you will benefit from well-equipped laboratories and access to staff whose research is at the frontier of the field. A year abroad is available, giving you the experience of studying electronics and digital engineering in an international context. With a typical entry tariff of 200 UCAS points, this is a competitive programme that prepares graduates for careers in electronics design and development, embedded systems, telecommunications, power electronics, semiconductors, defence electronics, automotive systems, and the rapidly growing field of the internet of things and connected devices. Many graduates pursue professional registration as Chartered Engineers through the Institution of Engineering and Technology. Some continue to postgraduate study in electronics, digital communications, power systems, or related engineering disciplines.
