MA Economics with French
About this course
Economics with French is a combination that pairs one of the most rigorous social science disciplines with one of the world's most important and widely spoken languages. Economics provides the analytical tools to understand how markets, institutions, and policies shape the allocation of resources and the wellbeing of societies. French connects you to the cultural, literary, and intellectual traditions of the Francophone world, spanning France, Belgium, West Africa, Quebec, and beyond, and gives you a language that is central to European institutions, diplomacy, and international organisations. At the University of Dundee, this four-year full-time programme allows you to study economics rigorously, developing quantitative and model-based methods of analysis alongside a broad social science and humanities foundation. The MA option provides additional flexibility to study across a range of subjects including history, English, geography, politics, and psychology alongside economics, enriching your degree with broader humanistic depth. The French strand develops your language proficiency and cultural knowledge, and the programme includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study in a Francophone environment. Graduates of economics with French pursue careers in economic analysis, the civil service, European institutions, international development, diplomacy, financial services, journalism, and business. The French language opens additional doors in Francophone markets and international organisations where French is a working language, including the European Union, the United Nations, and major international NGOs. Many graduates also go on to postgraduate study in economics, international relations, European studies, or French, where the combination of quantitative and linguistic skills is a genuine asset.
