BSc Economics, Politics and International Relations
About this course
Economics, politics, and international relations at Royal Holloway brings together three disciplines with natural affinities and strong mutual relevance. Economics provides tools for understanding how markets, incentives, and policies shape the allocation of resources and the distribution of welfare at every scale. Politics examines how power is organised, exercised, and contested within states and between them. International relations asks how states, international organisations, and other actors interact in a world without a central authority, exploring cooperation, conflict, diplomacy, and the governance of global challenges. This three-year full-time degree at Royal Holloway includes a sandwich placement year, a year abroad, and embedded work placement experience. You will combine the core content of the economics degree with foundation and option courses in politics and international relations, developing analytical tools from all three disciplines and learning to apply them to the complex realities of contemporary political economy and world affairs. Royal Holloway's teaching in both economics and politics and international relations is delivered by scholars with international research profiles, bringing current expertise into the classroom. The placement year, year abroad, and work placements give you substantial professional and international experience alongside your academic formation. A typical entry tariff of 120 UCAS points reflects an accessible admissions standard. The combination of economics, politics, and international relations prepares you for careers in the civil service, international organisations, economic policy, financial services, management consulting, political communications, journalism, development, and a wide range of roles in both public and private sectors where analytical breadth and political intelligence are valued. Many continue to postgraduate study in economics, international relations, public policy, or related disciplines.
