BSc Economics and Management with a Foundation Year
About this course
Economics and management is a combination that equips you to understand organisations and markets from two complementary angles. Economics provides the analytical tools to examine how markets work, how resources are allocated, how prices and incentives shape behaviour, and how policy interventions affect outcomes. Management draws on these economic insights and combines them with the practical knowledge needed to lead organisations effectively, covering strategy, human resources, operations, and decision-making under uncertainty. At the University of Kent, this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, making it accessible to students who need additional preparation before beginning the main degree. Across the programme you will develop both economic rigour and management breadth, learning to analyse market structures and economic dynamics alongside the operational and strategic dimensions of running organisations. The foundation year provides a supportive entry into the academic demands of economics and business, and students who complete it move on well-prepared for the more demanding material that follows. You will develop quantitative skills, the ability to interpret economic data, and the managerial judgement that comes from studying how real organisations operate. Graduates of economics and management programmes are sought after in business consultancy, financial analysis, public sector management, marketing, human resources, and operations management. The combination of economic literacy and management skills makes graduates adaptable across a range of sectors, including financial services, retail, manufacturing, government, and international organisations. Many graduates also pursue careers in economic research, policy analysis, or roles that require both strategic thinking and a command of quantitative reasoning. Postgraduate study in economics, management, or an MBA is a common next step for those who wish to specialise further or take on more senior roles.
