BSc Economics and Accounting
About this course
Economics and accounting is a combination that provides both the analytical framework of economics and the technical financial competencies of accounting, giving you two of the most valued skill sets in the commercial and public sector worlds. Economics helps you understand how markets work, how businesses and governments make decisions, and what drives growth, inflation, and financial stability. Accounting gives you the practical ability to record, report, audit, and interpret financial information, and to contribute to the financial decision-making of organisations at every level. At Brunel this three-year full-time degree is professionally accredited and equips you with the practical and analytical skills needed for a career in accountancy, finance, or banking. You will develop strong conceptual and quantitative abilities alongside the industry-relevant professional competencies that employers value, studying microeconomics, macroeconomics, financial reporting, management accounting, auditing, and taxation. The foundation year option provides an additional supported entry route for students who need further preparation before advancing to the main degree. The programme's accreditation means that you may gain exemptions from some of the professional accountancy examinations, giving you a head start on the route to chartered qualification. Graduates go on to careers in accounting firms, investment banks, corporate finance, the civil service, economic consultancy, and financial analysis. The combination of economic reasoning and accounting technique is particularly valued by employers who need graduates who can both understand business performance and contribute to financial reporting and strategy. Many graduates pursue professional qualifications with ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, or CIPFA, and others continue to postgraduate study in accounting, finance, or economics.
