BA Early Education Primary With QTS (3 - 7)
About this course
Teaching young children between the ages of three and seven is one of the most demanding and rewarding roles in education. This is the period of life in which children develop the foundations of literacy, numeracy, social skills and the love of learning, and the quality of their early educational experiences has consequences that last a lifetime. A degree that leads to Qualified Teacher Status for this age range prepares you to work in nurseries, reception classes and Year 1 and 2 in primary schools, with a deep understanding of early childhood development and pedagogy. At Liverpool Hope University, the three-year full-time programme focuses on early years and Key Stage 1 education, developing your knowledge of child development, the Early Years Foundation Stage, the Key Stage 1 curriculum, inclusive education, assessment for learning and the professional skills needed to create effective, caring learning environments for young children. You will spend significant time in partner primary schools and early years settings, gaining the practical teaching experience under supervision that Qualified Teacher Status requires. QTS is the professional qualification needed to teach in state schools in England. Liverpool is a city with a strong commitment to early years and primary education, and Liverpool Hope's large network of partner schools provides varied and high-quality school placement experiences across the range of early and primary settings. Graduates teach in nursery, reception and Year 1 and 2 classes in primary schools across the state and independent sectors. Many go on to become subject coordinators for early years or literacy, SEND coordinators, phase leaders and eventually school leaders. Postgraduate study in early childhood education, educational leadership or educational psychology is available for those who want to develop specialist expertise.
