BA Digital Media and Communications
About this course
Digital media and communications is a field concerned with how digital technologies are reshaping the ways in which information, entertainment, and culture are produced, distributed, and consumed. It encompasses video production, web design and development, social media and content creation, interactive and immersive media, and the broader understanding of digital culture and communication that any media professional in the contemporary world needs. It is both a creative and a technical discipline, requiring craft skills and design sensibility alongside an understanding of the platforms, tools, and business models that structure digital media today. At Middlesex University this three-year full-time programme has been especially designed to meet the skills and demands of the fast-moving creative industries, covering areas including immersive and augmented reality, video production, website design, culture and emerging web technologies. The programme is supported by practice-based learning and strong industry links, giving you the chance to work on real-world projects and develop the portfolio that employers in digital media look for. A foundation year route is available for students who would benefit from additional preparation before the main degree, ensuring the programme is accessible from a range of starting points. Graduates from digital media and communications programmes go on to careers across the creative and media industries, including roles as digital content producer, video editor, social media manager, UX designer, web developer, and digital communications officer. The creative industries are among the fastest-growing sectors of the UK economy, and the combination of creative skills and technical digital literacy that this degree develops is in consistent demand. Many graduates also pursue postgraduate study in digital media, communications, or design, or move into further professional development through industry-specific training and certification.
