BA Dance and Drama (With Foundation Year)
About this course
Dance and drama are disciplines rooted in the body, the voice, and the live encounter between performer and audience. Dance explores how movement creates meaning, expressing ideas, emotions, and experiences that language alone cannot reach. Drama extends that physical intelligence into character, narrative, and the traditions of theatrical performance. Studying them together develops a performer who can move with intelligence and speak with physical presence, and whose creativity spans both traditions. At Liverpool Hope this four-year full-time programme begins with a foundation year giving you additional preparation and support before progressing to the main degree. In the dance component you will develop your technique, choreographic practice, and understanding of the diverse traditions that shape contemporary and classical dance. Drama broadens your training, engaging you with performance traditions, text analysis, devising, and the historical and theoretical contexts of theatre. The programme includes a sandwich year giving you professional experience in the performance or arts sector, a year abroad for international study, and work placements throughout. Liverpool Hope's commitment to teaching excellence means you are guided by practitioners and scholars who bring both professional experience and research expertise to the studio and the classroom. Graduates go on to careers as performers, choreographers, dance teachers, drama facilitators, arts administrators, community artists, and in a wide range of creative and educational roles. The sector includes professional theatre and dance companies, schools, community programmes, arts organisations, health and wellbeing settings, and the wider creative industries. The combination of technical skill, collaborative experience, and intellectual understanding that the degree develops gives graduates the adaptability to work across these varied contexts. Many also continue to postgraduate study in performance, choreography, or arts education.
