About this course
Criminology and sociology together address some of the most pressing questions about how societies produce and respond to crime, deviance, and social inequality. Criminology asks why people commit crimes, how criminal justice systems operate, and whose interests those systems serve. Sociology provides the broader analytical frameworks for understanding social structure, identity, power, and change, offering the context within which criminal behaviour and criminal justice can be properly understood. Together they develop a perspective on contemporary social problems that is both analytically rigorous and humanly grounded. At City St George's, University of London this three-year full-time programme explores how criminality and crime relate to social issues such as gender, ethnicity, and the economy, examining how crime is defined and why it is such a defining issue for contemporary society.
