BA Creative Media
About this course
Creative media is a broad and dynamic discipline that encompasses the range of visual and digital forms through which stories, ideas, and experiences are communicated in the contemporary world. It sits across photography, film, animation, digital design, and interactive media, reflecting the reality that creative professionals today move between forms and platforms rather than being confined to a single medium. The discipline asks not just how to use creative tools but how to use them with intention, to make work that communicates something true, surprising, or emotionally resonant. At Plymouth, this three-year full-time programme develops your skills in visual storytelling through still images and other media, covering editing, composition, sequencing, and the technical craft of image-making alongside the narrative theory and aesthetics that allow you to think critically about what you are making and why. You will learn to create your own projects from conception to completion and to develop a critical understanding of how images communicate meaning in different cultural and commercial contexts. A year abroad is built into the programme, providing the opportunity to make work in a different environment and to encounter the creative approaches of other national traditions. Graduates from creative media programmes go on to work in photography, film production, content creation, advertising, editorial design, documentary media, arts organisations, education, and the digital creative sector. The skills you develop are relevant to a wide range of roles in the creative industries, from freelance practice to employment in media companies, agencies, and cultural organisations. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in photography, film, or visual communication, or develop independent creative practices that sit alongside other professional work.
