BSc Construction Project Management
About this course
Construction Project Management is the discipline concerned with the planning, coordination and delivery of building and civil engineering projects from initial conception through to handover. It sits at the intersection of construction technology, financial management, contract law and organisational leadership, and it addresses the complex challenges of delivering physical environments within agreed budgets, timeframes and quality standards. Construction project managers work across residential, commercial, infrastructure, industrial and public sector projects, and they are central to the successful delivery of the built environment. At Southampton Solent University, this full-time three-year programme includes an optional foundation year and is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), one of the principal professional bodies for construction management. You will learn both the technology of building and the management processes that ensure projects are delivered effectively, including cost management, procurement, contract administration, planning and the legal framework that governs the construction industry. The programme is led by qualified professionals with extensive industry experience, and extensive industry involvement ensures that you engage with current technology and management practice throughout your studies. Construction Project Management graduates are in consistent demand across the construction, infrastructure and property development sectors. Roles include project manager, site manager, construction manager, contracts manager, cost planner and programme manager, working for main contractors, specialist subcontractors, developers, local authorities, housing associations and infrastructure organisations. The CIOB accreditation provides a pathway to professional membership and chartered status, which is an important career milestone for construction project managers. Postgraduate study in project management, quantity surveying or construction law is available for those who wish to develop specialist expertise.
