Code is not just a technical tool but a creative medium, and computer science expertise combined with an understanding of design, media, and cultural production opens a range of possibilities that purely technical programmes do not address. At the University of the Arts, London, this three-year, full-time programme develops your understanding of computer science fundamentals alongside an awareness of the creative and cultural contexts in which computing operates. You will study programming, algorithms, data structures, software engineering, and the mathematical foundations of the discipline, while also engaging with the creative technologies, interactive media, and design thinking that the UAL environment makes available. A sandwich year is built into the programme, giving you professional experience in a technology, design, or creative industry context before you complete your studies. Work placement opportunities are also integrated throughout. UAL's position in London, at the heart of the global creative and technology economy, and its connections to the design, advertising, gaming, media, and technology sectors, make it an unusually well-connected environment in which to study. Graduates go on to careers in software development, user experience and interface design, game development, creative technology, digital media, and the technology divisions of creative organisations. Many also move into roles in technology start-ups, agencies, and studios where creative thinking and technical competence are equally valued. Postgraduate study in computer science, interaction design, or creative computing is another route.
