BA Business & Marketing
About this course
Business and marketing is a joint degree that recognises what practitioners in both fields have long understood: good marketing requires sound business judgement, and sound business strategy depends on understanding customers and markets. Business provides the frameworks of finance, operations, human resources and strategy through which organisations are managed; marketing provides the discipline of understanding consumers, positioning products, and communicating value in ways that build lasting relationships. Together they produce graduates with a comprehensive commercial education. At the University of the West of Scotland you will study this four-year programme, developing knowledge and skills across both disciplines in a programme that emphasises practical relevance alongside theoretical rigour. You will cover the core areas of business management, including strategy, finance, organisational behaviour and operations, alongside marketing theory and practice encompassing consumer behaviour, market research, digital marketing, brand management and communications. The Scottish Honours degree structure gives you the depth and breadth needed to engage seriously with both fields. Graduates of business and marketing enter a wide range of careers precisely because the combination is applicable to virtually every sector. Marketing management, brand management, digital marketing, market research, sales, business development, product management, public relations, and advertising are all common destinations. The business component opens doors in general management, consultancy, operations, and the full range of commercial roles in which understanding both strategy and customers is valued. Entrepreneurship is another well-established path for graduates whose commercial awareness and marketing insight give them the confidence to build their own ventures. Postgraduate study in marketing, business, digital marketing, or consumer behaviour is an option for those who wish to specialise or develop further.
